The following map shows the average number of cigarettes an adult consumes per year. The definition of an adult differs from study to study, but most studies included people aged 15 and older.

Please note: The map below is based on outdated data. I have written another article based on more recent data and better methodology.

The map is based on a table that compiles data from various studies and was released in 2007 (Edit: The table unfortunately doesn’t seem to be online anymore).
